Published on Friday, 17 November 2017 Enel Green Power Panama has started construction on the Estrella Solar photovoltaic plant, a project with nearly 8 MW which will give Nestle clean energy It’s called Estrella Solar and it’s another step forward towards the development of renewables in Panama and for the growth of Enel Green Power’s presence in new “green” development in Central America. Enel will invest about 8 million US dollars in the construction of the new solar plant in Panama, which will probably be completed by June 2018. The power produced by Estrella Solar will provide clean energy to the Swiss company Nestlé, which has an office in the town of Jaguïto. “The construction of a new solar plant in Panama shows our commitment to developing our business in Central America.” – Antonio Cammisecra, Head of Enel Green Power Once completed, Estrella Solar will produce about 12 GWh a year. This production is equal to the annual energy consumption needs of roughly 5,600 Panamanian households, while avoiding the emission of more than 10,000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere. Stella Solare, which will cover an area of 9.8 hectares, will have about 21,600 monocrystalline solar panels. “One of the things that makes Estrella Solar an important project is that it will have the first female site manager in the Enel world: Ana Caballero. A young Panamanian professional disproving many myths about the world of engineering and construction.” – Saverio Pidalá, Project Manager for Mexico and Central America EGP is involved in the construction of Estrella Solar together with local professionals, in order to consolidate the country’s solar industry, which will allow the Panamanian energy sector to meet the growing need for renewable energy in the best way. “We can help companies achieve their sustainability goals by giving them personalised solutions for renewable energy.” – Paolo Romanacci, Area Manager for EGP Mexico and Central America EGP-PA is one of the main renewable energy operators in Panama, as the second largest company in terms of installed energy capacity. Currently, we work in three installations: in the province of Chiriquí we have the Fortuna hydropower plant with 300 MW and the Chiriquí solar photovoltaic plant with 12 MW, while the Sol Real solar photovoltaic complex is located in the provinces of Chiriquí and Coclé and is made up of five distributed plants for 42 MW."
