Target™ has entered into a wind power partnership with Infinity Renewables (“Infinity”), buying 100 megawatts of the energy produced by Infinity’s 474 megawatt Solomon Forks Wind Project to offset 100% of the energy used at 150 Target stores throughout the region. The Solomon Forks Wind Project is located across 50,000 acres of land near the city of Colby in northwestern Kansas. Construction activities for the entire project are slated to commence in early 2018 with commercial operation targeted for the fourth quarter of 2018.“We are excited to work with Target on the Solomon Forks project. Target has shown great leadership in driving the development of low‐cost, clean energy development in the United States, and Infinity is pleased to be participating in that mission,” says Matt Langley, Infinity’s Vice President of Origination and Finance. The overall project will provide between 250 and 300 construction jobs and 15 to 20 permanent employment opportunities. Power generated from the project will be enough to provide power to more than 265,000 homes. Solomon Forks is Target’s second wind energy project, and just one way the retailer is getting involved in renewable energy projects in communities where they do business. Infinity is a leading wind energy project developer with a strong record in Kansas. The Solomon Forks Wind Project will be the fourth project that Infinity has developed and advanced to completion in Kansas. It is also one of several wind projects proposed to be constructed in Kansas in 2018, which is currently ranked fifth in the nation for installed wind capacity. The continued growth of wind energy in Kansas has resulted in one of the lowest‐cost sources of energy in the United States."
