October 24 (Renewables Now) - First Solar Inc (NASDAQ:FSLR) will develop and build a 58-MW solar park in Utah that will be supplying clean power for Facebook’s (NASDAQ:FB) Prineville data centre in Oregon.

The US social media giant will buy the output of the photovoltaic (PV) facility under a power purchase agreement (PPA) with PacifiCrop, First Solar said on Wednesday. The deal is part of an earlier agreement with utility Pacific Power, a unit of PacifiCorp, to match 100% of Facebook’s electricity use at the data centre with renewable energy.

The so-called Cove Mountain solar park will be installed near Enterprise, Utah, using First Solar’s Series 6 thin-film PV modules. Its construction is slated to begin late next year, with commissioning planned for late 2020. First Solar Energy Services will operate and maintain the plant, when completed.

In July, Facebook and Pacific Power agreed to add 437 MW of solar capacity to power the Prineville data centre. The partners then said that two of the proposed PV parks, totalling 100 MW, will be located in the Prineville area."
