Enel puts online 620 MW of US wind farms
December 28 (Renewables Now) - Two US wind parks of Italian utility Enel SpA (BIT:ENEL) with a combined capacity of 620 MW have started power generation.
Enel Green Power North America Inc (EGPNA) has switched on the 320-MW Rattlesnake Creek wind farm in Nebraska and the roughly 300-MW Diamond Vista wind farm in Kansas. Together, the wind farms can produce roughly 2,600 GWh per year.
The combined investment in the projects amounted to USD 830 million (EUR 728m). Both parks have signed long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) in place. Rattlesnake will sell its power to Facebook (NASDAQ:FB) and software major Adobe Systems Inc (NASDAQ:ADBE). Diamond Vista is supported by three separate PPAs, the first two of which are for 100 MW each with global manufacturing company Kohler Co and City Utilities of Springfield. The third is for 84 MW with the Tri-County Electric Cooperative of Oklahoma.
EGPNA has signed tax equity agreements with Bank of America Merrill Lynch and JP Morgan under which the investment banks will buy 100% of the “Class B” equity interests in both parks for USD 334 million and USD 317 million, respectively. Enel still owns all of the “Class A” interests, and manages and operates the wind farms.
With these two wind farms, the total renewable capacity added by Enel Green Power around the world this year reaches 2.6 GW, of which over 830 MW in North America.
